Baked Apple Slices

Cinnamon Baked Apple Slices are perfect for the whole family—from babies just starting solids to adults looking for a comforting, wholesome snack. Simple to make and versatile enough to serve at breakfast, snack time, or as a delicious dessert.

My family enjoy fresh, crisp apples as they are or, added to recipes such as this Apple and Cucumber Salad or in these Apple Overnight Oats.

But, when you add a little heat apples become sweeter and more comforting and are perfect for cozy fall days (plus soft apples are the ideal texture for serving to babies and toddlers.) Ingredients Information

Apples

Firm apples like Pink Lady, Jazz, Kanzi, Granny Smith, Fuji, Honeycrisp, or Gala work well. Sweeter varieties are great in this recipe as there is no added sugar, but mixing sweet apples with tarter varieties can provide a nice balance of textures and flavors.

Coconut Oil

Adds richness. Substitute with unsalted butter or skip. If you do choose to omit the fat, the apples will be a bit drier but still delicious.

Ground Cinnamon

You can substitute or mix with other warm spices like ground ginger, cardamom, allspice, pumpkin pie spice, apple pie spice, or vanilla.

Lemon Juice

Optional - The tartness from the lemon juice contrasts nicely with the natural sweetness of the apples and cinnamon, making the dish more vibrant.

Step by Step Instructions (with images)

  • Core and cut apples into ¼ - ½ inch (0.6 cm - 1.2cm) thick slices. - I usually cut each apple into 12 slices.
  • Add coconut oil to dish and pop in oven to melt. Add the cinnamon and lemon juice and stir to combine.
  • Add the apples and toss to coat in the cinnamon mixture.
  • Bake the apples until they are tender but still hold their shape.
